We are looking for a Sales Account Manager to join Root’s Business Development team.

We are looking for a skilled individual to help achieve Root’s ambitious market penetration and revenue growth ambitions in South Africa. By representing Root on the forefront, you will ensure maximum value delivery and customer satisfaction by building strong partnerships with new and existing customers and by being their trusted advisor and contact point into Root from the first engagement. We aim to delight our customers through the speed of delivery, enabling them to seamlessly launch new products on the Root platform faster than they thought possible.

This full-time role is based at our De Waterkant office in Cape Town but will be fully-remote during COVID-19

What you'll do:

In this role, you will be responsible for initiating and closing new deals, overseeing the onboarding of new customers and managing and expanding customer accounts post-sale. You will own these core responsibilities:

Core responsibilities:

  • Business Development
    • Take Root’s sales process to the next level and further professionalise it.
    • Generate, qualify and select quality leads for conversion.
    • Deliver high quality, tailored presentations/demos to potential customers
    • Develop professional RFI/RFP submissions that win large deals
    • Develop and execute thoughtful and laser focused closing strategies that maximise close rates.
    • Drive high-impact commercial outcomes for both Root and our customers.
  • Account Management
    • Deliver a seamless experience to customers from the sale to product launch, supporting them through the entire implementation period.
    • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of customer businesses and priorities through regular check-ins, active listening and attention to detail.
    • Support customers in achieving their desired objectives and maximising the value they get from the Root platform.
    • Develop customers into strong brand advocates of Root.
    • Work to achieve high client retention, account expansion and positive referral rates.

We are looking for someone with:

The ideal candidate for this role will have a track record of successfully selling into an enterprise and mid-market companies.

Core requirements to perform responsibilities:

  • 5+ years of software sales experience - SaaS experience preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma
  • Strong skills and experience in enterprise sales and developing and continually improving sales processes.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Technically savvy, demonstrating understanding of a similar technology proposition
  • Proficiency using CRM (e.g. Pipedrive, Hubspot, Salesforce)
  • Proficiency in developing quality presentations using software such as Powerpoint, Google Slides, etc.
  • Ability to deliver compelling presentations either in person or remotely over Zoom, Teams, etc.
  • Comfortable working under pressure.
  • Driven to succeed.
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
  • Able to effectively gather and communicate valuable feedback to the broader Root team for Platform improvements.
  • Ability to build strong internal relationships and external partnerships.
  • Willing and able to travel locally in South Africa frequently.

  • Knowledge/interest in the insurance industry.
  • Self-starter who is passionate about working for a fast-paced start-up.
